David R. McDuff, M.D.
Dr. McDuff is an experienced sports psychiatrist and mental skills trainer. Since 1996
he has worked as the senior team assistance physician for the Baltimore Orioles and
Ravens. He regularly visits both teams during the pre, playing, and post seasons
providing players, coaches, and family members input on team building, stress control,
life balance, performance enhancement, mental preparation, injury rehabilitation,
substance prevention, supplement use, and mental illness management.
In addition to his work at the professional level, Dr. McDuff has worked with Division I
University and elite Club and High School athletes and teams. From 1997 to 2009, he
served as a consultant to the Athletic Department at the University of Maryland, College
Park (UMCP) and in 2002 through one of his fellows, he created a comprehensive
Athletic Assistance Program for all teams at the University of Maryland Baltimore
County. At UMCP, Dr. McDuff worked closely with women’s basketball and soccer and
men’s baseball and football and saw individual athletes from several other sports. He
has also consulted with teams and athletes from Loyola, Stevenson, Johns Hopkins,
Towson, and Morgan State Universities.
From his office practice in Ellicott City, Maryland he works with track, cross country,
hockey, soccer and lacrosse teams and sees athletes from all sports but especially
distance running, golf, tennis, soccer, baseball, basketball, football, lacrosse, rugby, and
hockey. Finally, he has four older children who played team sports in high school or college.
